Myths and stigmas busted

Hi. Yes, hello. I'm sure you're all wondering why I gathered you here today.  Can we have a young caucus to discuss a few myths stigmas that have been giving people unfair advantage since the beginning of time.

These are in no particlar order.

•A good "accent"
Myth: A good English accent means your smart.

I'm not even sure what this means but I know a lot of people judge a person based on the way they speak English. None of us sound British so what is a good accent anyway? Is a French man not regarded sexy for speaking broken English with unnecessary z's and errrrms in between? So why do you think a Zulu guy is stupid when he speaks English in his "black accent"?

Intelligence goes much deeper than the way you can say a few big English words. A lot of us are still a long way off from believing that.

•Light skin
Myth: Light skin is definitely (insert all synonyms of beautiful here).

I'm gonna get emotional here. I can't.

•Thickness
Myth: A woman has to have curves.

That is SO unfair. What about the rest of us who are just naturally small? Are we less women? I'm quite petite and I've watched the girls representing #TeamThick make the rest of us look small, pun thoroughly intended. Just because her bum isn't more than a handful, her arms are defined and her breasts are perky little tennis balls, it doesn't mean that what she carries isn't womanly. Because it is. And man, isn't it just.

#TeamPortable stand up!

•Short guys
Myth: Short guys aren't cool.

Shame. Just because everyone is a head taller than him it doesn't make him less of a man, because a man is made up of many other things than just being 1.8m tall. Okay, being that tall can make you smell like testosterone. But there's no point in a guy being a sky scraper when he can't be there for you when you need him the most. Sure he can hand you the can of beans on the highest cupboard, but is that it?

•Long hair
Myth: Long hair > short hair

Or coarse hair. If one person likes the long shiny stuff and the next likes the short coarse stuff, allow. Just don't force your ideas on realness based on a persons hairstyle. Whether you have money in an off shore account, or money under your mattress, the fact remains you have money. In the same way, if you are pretty with a weave, or are pretty with a bald head, fact remains, you are pretty. So let's not go around telling people someone only looks good because they are in a weave and they'd be ugly without. And you sister, rock your weave, don't let them tell you that you're plastic. And you, with the natural hair, chill. We get it.
Ay, oestrogen can be a problem.

•The B.Sc
Myth: Clever people do math and science. Only.

Just because the are two people in front of you, one with a B.Sc abs another with a BA, it doesn't mean the guest person is smarter than the second. Possibly, yes, but not definitely. Besides, the define of smart us personal. Can we all pursue our dreams without being ranked on a scale of 0 to Science though?

Ask me about a B.Sc, I'll tell you all about it.

Yes, we all have preferences (and thank goodness, actually, because then everyone wins). It's one thing to prefer one thing over another and a whole other ball game when you think what you prefer is what is RIGHT. I'm here to tell you that you are WRONG. Stop that. Let other kids prefer their own things in peace and quiet.

I done preached, I can sit down now.
