Politics for the utterly confused

It's May 1st and I should probably have an idea of who I'd like to elect as the governing party for South Africa. Politics shmolitics. I'm a damsel in distress.
I'm doing what feels like a last minute homework assignment where I'm Googling what I think I need to know before marking my ballot paper next week. I've been involved in countless debates where different people have their opinion on what the best cast would be, but I may as well have been there to take minutes.
I don't know much about politics, pardon my ignorance. I do acknowledge this fact and it's part of the reason why I don't mind being involved in these debates where the best input I have is a nod or the occasional gasp as I learn something I never knew.
I'm lying in bed with a pdf, reading the Budget Speech and National Development Plan and the numbers are breathtaking; I almost sat up to draw up a spreadsheet as a visual aid. So much money is being spent, the future of the entire country being decided. That's one hell of a responsibility.
I'll refrain from stating out-right facts for the fear of being asked questions I can't respond to, but what I do understand is that parties are fighting one another to be granted that responsibility. I'm starting to wonder if they call them parties because of all the money that cannot be accounted for, all the broken glasses as well as the scandalous shenanigans that occur at a party.
Shout out to the guys with made up minds under their red caps. To the folks supporting the white mama kissing our grannies, and to the loyal crowd who like consistency and are using history as persuasion. And everyone else who knows me.
My ignorance is appalling right now so I think I'll leave it here before it becomes too apparent. I have just about a week to decide who I'd like to hold the remote control where South Africa is the television set.
To those who've decided they'd rather not vote, I suppose you're okay with watching any TV program. Shout out to you too.
