Ratios and things

I don't mean to blog about hair so much but my hair is a transformer so my life pretty much revolves around controlling it. I just went to wash my hair. Okay. As I was about to pay, I figured I could braid it into something quick and easy just to last until next Sunday.

I got into a bit of a squabble with the "manager", we shall call him. I thought perhaps he isn't the right person to talk to because he isn't even the one doing the hard labour, so I moved onto another salon just a block away. I was told the same story and I'm in my head thinking "Whaaaaat??" The pricing is ridiculous. Call me a cheap skate or whatever your vocab allows, but would you take a look at this:

A. Straight back, or cornrows or flat braiding, whatever you call it on your side of town is R90. On a regular sized head there could be thirty rows if you like them skinny, or fifteen if you like the trendy thick braid thing. Either way, both are R90.

B. This price includes all the hair piece you will need. Some use over two, my head takes up about 1.5 packets of hair, but I still pay full price. But that's okay.

C. Today, because of time and my not being in the mood to have my hair tugged in all sorts of directions, I asked for two lines. Two. That means they'd part all the hair on my head into two, and then proceed to braid two lines. Not fifteen. Not thirty. Just two. This would use up less than a packet of hair and a fraction of the time they could've spent had I asked for the normal amount.

D. They charged me R70. Uhm. How is that even okay, maths disagrees immensely. Exponentially. I don't see how ratios have been applied here. I'm asking for less than a third of the work to be done, how am I only being charged R20 less?

That's what I asked them.

E. They told me about bulk buying. The more you buy the less you pay. Okay, touché. That sound pretty valid. Business is business.

F. But R70?!

Nah. No way. Am I wrong?

Huu shem. I left. Me and my R70. We left.

I'll only regret this when my hair transforms on me again, but right now I'm alright. I'm not mad. I'm just not paying that.
